The center of TAG’d is the online gameplay accessible through the TAG’d website. This free to play browser game will have no paid memberships, items, or anything of the sort. The map will become a hub of this digital world, an island where extinct species have been preserved digitally to live again.
TAG'd trading cards are unique as they can only be obtained through gameplay. The cards are offered as a printable reward for gathering enough information about a specific species. Each card has AR functionality with a mobile app that transports the animal into the real world.

An additional reward for exceptional players is 3D printed figures of an animal of their choice. These figures are made to order with packaging that functions as a self mailer. The packaging itself becomes a part of the toy as a fold out playset.
Initial mind maps and concept building
I began with a computer game, a way of playing that many kids can access without additional money. A computer game also has the advantage of guided play. With these two things in mind, TAG’d was shaped into an online educational game that embraces curiosity while also focusing on a child’s own drive for exploration.

Initial concepts for characters
The basis for the TAG’d pets are extinct animals, a section of Earth’s wildlife that is rapidly growing. As more species are added to the endangered and extinct list, I believe it is incredibly important to teach everyone about those we have lost and preserve the information we still have on them. Inspired by 2000-2010s children's toys and mascots, I created stylized animals that would be found in the TAG'd game.

A page from the TAG'd pitchbook explaining gameplay
The gameplay loop of TAG'd involves choosing a location to explore, tracking down an animal, learning more details about said animal, and using those details to track them down again. After enough research is complete, after the file for the animal is fully filled out, the player can obtain physical trading cards to represent their research.
